Polymex-Sofia imports thermal and protective screens for greenhouses
and open areas from major European and world producers. There are
different types of screens: woven thermo-reflective LDPE, aluminized
PE, non-woven textile screens. All of them have the following
advantages:
- Protection against sun radiation and
heat reduction in the greenhouse construction.
The screens accumulate and release heat and therefore they are called
“hot screens”. The heat exchange is between the air in the woven
net and the emitted and
absorbed radiation by cooler elements under the screen (plants,
soil and etc). In this
case the temperature of the leaves is identical to the surrounding
air temperature. The aluminium screens do not heat and therefore
are called “cold screens”
Aluminium itself is known as an isolating material. Due to
the reflectivity of the aluminium net the sun radiation is reflected
and returns towards the
sky instead of penetrating to the soil or to the plants;
- Protection against freezing due
to failure in heating system. In sunny days the plants
absorb much energy. During the night they release infra-red radiation.
When there are no barriers
against the long infra-red waves, the plants loose soon
the accumulated during the day temperature. So the temperature of
the leaves is identical
to the surrounding air temperature for a short time. In case of
failure in heating system
of the greenhouse plants cannot survive without screens.
- Saving energy. The screens protect
from losses of infra-red radiation. In this way
they save energy. Most of the energy losses (80%) in heated constructions
are at night. Thermal
screens reflect the stream energy back to the plants and to the
soil. Thus the temperature in the greenhouse is effectively maintained.
Up to 40% of the heating
energy may be saved, depending on the type of screens and other
conditions in the construction. Thermal screens give the opportunity
of effective temperature
control during day and night.
- Light dispersion. The reflectivity
of screens creates secondary radiation to the plants
and improves the light diffusion. The uniform scattered light is
essential for the photosynthesis
quality.
- Pest and insect penetration;
- Prevention from condensation on
screens and plants;
- Due to net structure, screens are
of high elasticity; they provide uniform shading and
light diffusion; controlled ventilation in greenhouse.
